Connected Cars is a mobile application that leverages Covisint Developer Portal's IoT solutions to simplify vehicle diagnostics and maintenance for everyday drivers.
Challenges

The project faced several key challenges in its development phase. The primary hurdle was translating complex technical vehicle data into an interface that everyday users could easily understand and navigate. Additionally, we needed to ensure the application integrated smoothly with Covisint's IoT infrastructure without compromising performance or reliability. The most critical challenge was finding the right balance between technical accuracy and user-friendly language when presenting diagnostic information, ensuring that users could understand complex engine issues without automotive expertise.

Research & Discovery

I began the project by thoroughly analyzing Covisint's existing design system, which was the foundation for my application's visual language and user experience. I identified opportunities to optimize the design system for mobile-first experiences. I collaborated closely with Covisint's developers to understand their IoT platform's technical constraints and capabilities, ensuring my design decisions would align with the system's architecture. This groundwork was crucial in establishing a cohesive visual identity that would scale across different devices while maintaining the robustness required for automotive diagnostics.

Solution

I developed a comprehensive solution addressing multiple vehicle diagnostics and maintenance aspects. The application seamlessly translates complex engine codes into plain language that any driver can understand while continuously monitoring vehicle health status. To help prevent major issues, I implemented a smart recommendation system that alerts users about necessary maintenance before problems escalate. The app connects users with nearby qualified service providers when professional service is needed. I created an interface that maintains visual consistency while being optimized for mobile use. Throughout the design process, I prioritized clarity and accessibility, transforming complex vehicle data into comprehensible information that non-technical users can easily understand and act upon.
